Dragon Ball Daima Episode 1 - A New Beginning for the Franchise

The Dragon Ball franchise is back, and with the premiere of Dragon Ball Daima, we're diving into a brand new storyline that promises to keep both new and long-time fans on the edge of their seats. While some might have been expecting a continuation of Dragon Ball Super, Daima takes the lore in a different direction. But don’t worry—there’s still plenty of action, humor, and nostalgia to go around.

A Fresh Take on Familiar Territory

The first episode introduces us to the Demon Realm and a new villain dynamic led by Degesu, his sister Dr. Arinsu, and Glorio. Degesu's rivalry with his brother, Supreme Kai Shin, gives the story an emotional edge, and we can't wait to see how this tension unfolds. It’s clear that Daima is aiming to expand the Dragon Ball universe in intriguing new ways, and that’s exciting for fans who want to explore more of its rich lore.

Goku and Vegeta, as always, provide the perfect mix of rivalry and humor. One standout moment had us laughing out loud—Goku taking a jab at Vegeta’s height while casually suggesting a sparring match after eating. It’s classic Goku and Vegeta banter that brings back the fun, lighthearted dynamics we love from the series. Sure, it’s fan service, but it’s the kind we wanted.

Stellar Animation and Direction

The animation in episode 1 is top-tier, featuring beautifully reanimated scenes from the Buu Saga and an intense sparring match between Goku and Vegeta. Aya Komaki’s direction and Chikashi Kubota’s animation work make this episode visually stunning. From breathtaking landscapes to fluid action sequences, Daima delivers on all fronts. Even the character designs, though slightly tweaked, remain faithful to Toriyama’s vision. Bulma’s shorter stature may have raised an eyebrow or two, but overall, the visual aesthetic works.

A Bit of Lore and a Lot of Potential

The episode kicks off with a bit of a slow burn, spending some time recapping past events and setting up the lore of the Demon Realm. While some may find this exposition a bit lengthy, we appreciated the context it provided, especially given how long it’s been since we’ve delved into some of these characters and storylines.

This isn’t just about rehashing old territory; Dragon Ball Daima looks to take us in new directions. With fresh antagonists and unexplored realms, there’s so much potential for epic battles and deep character development. The animation quality alone has us excited for what’s to come.

Final Thoughts

At Movement Radio, we’re giving Dragon Ball Daima episode 1 a big thumbs up. Sure, it’s not the Super continuation we all thought was coming, but it’s a welcome new journey in the Dragon Ball universe. The animation is top-notch, the humor lands, and the new story elements have us intrigued. Episode 1 of Daima is a solid start, and we’re ready for what’s next.

Stay tuned, and make sure to catch episode 2 when it drops!
